Audemars Piguet introduces the new model that challenges the conventional reading time with just one hand for the hour and minutes. This model is the new addition to their Millenary collection, dubbed Audemars Piguet Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique. In this watch, the time is meant to be read approximately.
The hand is attached to the periphery of a central rotating disc instead of fixed in the center of the dial. As the hand completes its clockwise motion around the dial, the disc supporting it rotates in an anticlockwise direction creating a curious visual effect. If the hand is smack between 6 and 7 o’clock, for example, it is 6:30; if it is closer to the 6 o’clock marker, it could be 5 or 10 minutes past the hour.
It comes with an oval-shaped case that their 1995 model inspires. This 39,5mm case design is full of creativity, artisanal skills, and so unconventional. This hammered and satin-finished 18-carat pink gold case comes with glare-proof sapphire crystal and case back. Meanwhile, the crown is set with a translucent sapphire cabochon: the truly organic and intrinsically feminine appeal.

The brown dial comes with irregular dimples or grooves hammered on the surface by hand to add an intriguing aspect to the watch. This also adds an organic human touch that is not really common in today’s watch market—the single hand made in gold with polished and frosted facets to match the case.
The new Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique comes with an in-house automatic movement, caliber 3140, to join the line-up of Audemars Piguet’s hand-wound catalog. The Caliber 3140 is based on caliber 3120 but with additional gearing for the single-hand mechanism.
This movement has a round shape, unlike the oval-shaped hand-wound movements of other Millenary models. A 43 jewel movement is composed of 234 parts, the frequency of the balance wheel is 21,600vph/3Hz, and the power reserve is 50 hours. You can see the golden rotor with a frosted background engraved with Audemars and Piguet family crest through the case back.
With an unconventional case, an unconventional hammered finish and an unconventional way of reading the time, this watch is for the ladies who want to look different. This watch is more about aesthetic pleasure and a slightly strong attitude instead of precision of telling time like any other common watch on the market.
