Innovative Materials
Featuring a 44-mm diameter corresponding to the collection’s extra-large format, the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Indonesia Edition series is made from an elegant combination of Lucent Steel and ceramised titanium, two innovative metals chosen by the workshops for their innovative properties. Lucent Steel is an innovative steel composed of 80% recycled materials that was developed by Chopard for its anti-allergenic virtues, its robustness, and its incomparable brilliance achieved through a meticulous recasting process.
The use of ceramised titanium also reflects the avant-garde spirit of the workshops, this light, ultra-resistant metal is obtained through a process of titanium oxidation using electro-plasma technology. This treatment endows it with a hardness of 1000 Vickers and perfect resistance to impact and corrosion, making it the ideal material for the watch’s bumpers designed to protect the crown.
A cutting-edge Chronograph Movement
At the heart of this new model is the Chopard 03.05-C movement, one of the world’s most innovative chronograph movements. It has a 60-hour power reserve and features a column wheel. It is also enhanced by several technical innovations that have earned Chopard three patents stemming from the boldness of its R&D teams. Firstly, it is equipped with a unidirectional gear drive system that prevents energy losses while ensuring rapid winding; in addition, its vertical clutch ensures accurate time-measurement starts.
This chronograph calibre is also of the flyback variety, enabling smooth successive timing operations thanks to three pivoting hammers with elastic arms facilitating zero-setting of the counters. Equipped with a stop-seconds function enabling accurate adjustments of the watch, the Chopard 03.05-C movement is chronometer-certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.
A Design Inspired by Nature
Belonging to the select circle of watches with an integrated case and bracelet, this timepiece presents a design that is both sophisticated and contemporary, featuring a wealth of references to the Alpine eagle and its biotope. The texture of its dial recalls an eagle’s iris, while its salmon-pink shade evokes the rosy-orange glow of sunrays glinting off snow-capped peaks at dawn and dusk.
The case is distinguished by the bumpers protecting the crown, engraved with a compass rose, an instrument that has helped adventurers find their way since antiquity. Today, it is the emblem of contemporary eagles capable of choosing the right direction in the pursuit of their destiny.
The Alpine Eagle’s round bezel is punctuated by eight screws, grouped in pairs at the four cardinal points. Their slots are set at a tangent to the circle of the bezel, a sign of high-quality finishing and sophisticated aesthetic purpose. These screws also serve a technical function by guaranteeing the watch’s water resistance to 100 metres.
Special Edition Caseback
Since this watch is a special edition for the Indonesian market only, there are definitely Indonesian touches present on this watch. On the case back, there is a print of the Indonesia map, symbolizing the view of the Alpine eagle as it crosses the Indonesian archipelago.
