Since its beginnings, the Chopard Happy Sport has been positioned as the perfect all-rounder for the modern lady. The new Happy Sport and Happy Sport Chrono, with their 18-carat ethical rose gold construction, are suitable for all situations, from the gym to a business dinner.
Caroline Scheufele designed the Happy Sport in the early 1990s, and it was the first watch to mix steel with diamonds. Because there were no precious metals, it was more accessible to a larger audience while yet keeping the sparkle of diamonds.
The gold-encased stones dance with every flick of the wearer’s wrist, nestled between two sapphire gems that vanish due to an optical illusion.
A chronograph variation has been missing from Chopard’s catalogue, until this year they are introducing a sportier variation on the Happy Sport, with a 40mm rose gold case. The crown is given a faint coin edge finish to enhance grip while remaining polished throughout.
The water resistance has been increased to 50 meters, which is the absolute minimum for a sports chronograph. The final touch is a blue alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold clasp.
SuperLuminova treatment is applied on the hands and index, which improves contrast against the rose dial both day and night. The dial printing is a consistent navy blue, with a nice serif type emphasizing the sub dial functions like the 33mm version. A satin sunburst finish stands out from the dial centre, finished in a delicate guilloche to help separate them from the rest of the dial.
Because this is a bigger watch, the number of floating diamonds has been increased to seven for the Happy Sport Chrono. Finally, a date window with mismatched colours squeezes itself between the 4 and 5 o’clock indices.
The Happy Sport Chrono is powered by a COSC-certified chronograph movement. The display caseback displays the cotes de Geneve ornamentation, which has a total power reserve of 54 hours.
