While Breguet does not have a true sports watch collection, there are two collections inspired by purpose-built watches from the past. One is the Type XX, a freshly redesigned pilot’s chronograph that pays homage to both sides of the Breguet family. The other one is the Marine, another watch built with yachting in mind that is a homage to A.L.
Breguet has just released one of the sleekest versions of the Breguet Marine. While preserving the collection’s trademark and quite intricate design, the case has been simplified slightly to attain a relative thinness of 9.3mm, while the diameter remains relatively big at 42.5mm.

This sophisticated watch, available in 18k pink gold or 950 platinum, is dedicated to sailing, with a screw-down crown covered by lateral guards assuring 100m water resistance.
The dial of this Marine Tourbillon 5577 is designed in the same way as previous versions. There is no more wave-like guilloché design here, but instead a simple yet elegant gold dial with a sunray-brushed pattern.
Depending on the case, it will be brown or blue, with gold attached markings and glowing hands. The bright Roman numerals are still polarising, but the overall style is more controlled, streamlined, and concentrated around the tourbillon at 5 o’clock, and the sunray-brushed effect radiates from the tourbillon’s centre.
Inside is the in-house calibre 581, an ultra-thin movement with 330 components that measures just 3mm thick. This thinness is made feasible by the use of a peripheral rotor. It is a contemporary movement with a fast-beating tourbillon fitted with an escapement and a silicon balancing spring.
The back has a nautical-inspired pattern with a straight-ribbed motif indicating the presence of boat decks. The barrel drum displays a compass rose that adds a classical character of this watch. The new Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577 is now available as part of the permanent collection and comes with rubber or alligator leather straps that are both secured by a folding clasp.
