The current reference for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin, or the “real deal” for a RO, is the 16202, which replaced the 15202. A set of letters appears next to this reference number, indicating the material of choice for each publication. ST is for steel, BA stands for yellow gold, and BC stands for white gold, and there have been many more in the past. Consider the 15202IP, which combines titanium and platinum.
AP has released the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT today. Except for one extremely unique instance, this letter combination has never been encountered in the regular collection. Back in time a little, in 2021, Audemars Piguet introduced the 15202XT, a watch with the XT initials. This watch was notable for its distinctiveness, the case was constructed of titanium and BMG.

Following the ultra-attractive white gold RO Jumbo with Tuscan blue dial from the 2023 line, it is time for a lightweight, inventive, and stunning version, the new 16202XT. The major highlight of this edition is not the grade 5 titanium case with traditional brushed and polished finishes, but the additional material utilised for both the completely polished bezel and the mid-links on the bracelet.
Known as BMG or bulk metallic glass, this material is a palladium-based alloy used in micro-electronics, and shares several characteristics with other glasses, including amorphicity and high strength, making it highly resistant to wear and corrosion. Its non-crystalline nature results in a unique play of light when hand-finished.
The dial is another standout element of this 39mm watch. In the same line as the platinum 16202PT’s gradient, sunray-brushed green dial, this new titanium x BMG variant features a burgundy red smoked dial with no pattern other than a fine sunray-brushed texture. There is no tapisserie here, only the fumé impression. The date disc complements the dial, and the applied markings and hands are done in pink gold for added elegance.
The calibre 7121 can be viewed through the sapphire back, and it was the primary change found on the 16202 generation. This in-house tiny automatic movement operates at a contemporary 4 Hz frequency and has a power reserve of 52 hours. It has a classic finish yet is built in a contemporary way.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202XT, worn on a titanium and BMG bracelet with a folding clasp, will be part of the permanent collection, but do not expect it to be mass-produced.
