IWC Schaffhausen announced that they would be collaborating with Warner Bros. Pictures’ for the upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The collaboration includes two new models that are modelled after the brilliant red and blue prop timepieces that the company provided for the highly anticipated feature film sequel.
IWC has designed the IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Ceratanium that is ultra-bold, distinctly on the big side, packed with various complexities, and shaped for a mission. Naturally, the models are aquatic in nature. They are dressed entirely in black with brilliantly coloured contrasting components and have an Aquaman motif.

These timepieces represent some of the biggest and boldest designs that IWC has ever produced. These are based on a model that was initially introduced in 2014 as a part of the redesigned Aquatimer series, so they’re not totally new.
Its intricate chronograph QP movement has been displayed several times at IWC, but in somewhat different versions, such as this Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar or the Portugieser 75th Anniversary. What counts in this case are watches that measure 49 mm in height, which means that a Big Pilot will no longer be as large.
The black case was made of ceratanium material, which combines the qualities of ceramics with the mechanical resilience and light weight of titanium. It also has the SafeDive System bezel, which connects the exterior and internal bezels mechanically, much like any other contemporary Aquatimer watch. Water resistance is certified at 100 metres, and the crown is screwed on. Like other watches in the current Aquatimer collection, they have a quick-exchange mechanism, a Ceratanium pin buckle, and a vented rubber strap.
These Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month have black dials and hands with various red or blue luminous highlights. There’s also an inner spinning bezel that indicates the dive time. The design was inspired by the glow colors of the prop watches used by Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin in the film.
The complicated mechanism, which combines a chronograph and a perpetual calendar, can be seen through a honeycomb design over the calendar display. Apart from its contemporary aesthetic appeal, this display’s primary benefit is its readable nature. There is no overlap in the indicators since the chronograph uses a single totalizer at 12 o’clock for both hours and minutes, as well as a central seconds hand.
This watch is powered by an in-house calibre 89802, an automatic integrated column-wheel chronograph that features a flyback function. This movement has 68 hours of power reserve and is decorated by blackened rotors that have been given a technical shape that was inspired by the movie.
