When you go to a formal event with a tuxedo on, match a watch on your wrist is something important. Before you attend your next formal event, there are some standard rules that you should consider when choosing the right watch. Women need to heed this advice too. Your watch should be understated, complementing the formality of the event and enhancing the elegance of your overall look.
Dial
If you are going to a gala or wedding, we recommend that the color of your watch dial must be the same as the color of your tuxedo.

Glow-in-the-dark watches can be especially distracting when attending events such as theater or formal events where the lights are dim, so you shouldn’t wear a luminescent watch with your tuxedo. Traditionally, formal watches had to tell time with hours and minutes display only.
However watches that feature sub-seconds or other simple complications, such as the date or 24-hour hands are acceptable.

Size
Make sure your watch is slim enough, so it can slide easily and comfortably under the sleeves of your shirt or jacket.

The shirt should be not so tight, you should be able to button the cuffs easily on the first or second button. If you’re wearing a French-style shirt, the sleeve will be slightly looser, so you’ll have more flexibility in the thickness of the watch.
Strap
Rubber or nylon strap are not suitable with a tuxedo. Leather straps are the most formal option but metal bracelets are acceptable.

You should use a simple black calfskin strap. Your watch case should match whatever jewelry you’re wearing. If you choose a bling-bling outfit, keep it as understated as around the bezel, or limit any other jewelry that you wear on your wrist. If you are going to wear a watch with yellow gold color, make sure it comes in a small size and clean dial.

Left or Right Wrist?
You should always wear a watch for formal events on your left wrist. This will ensure that your watch is not visible when you shake hands. However, you can forget about this rule if wearing the watch on the left wrist is too uncomfortable. You should also wear a watch with a dial at the top of the wrist, not the bottom. Seems logical but still worth noting.

Whatever style of watch you choose, it should be neat and clean. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth before leaving to give it a little extra shine. If you are looking for a watch to complete your tuxedo, go to the nearest The Time Place boutique for more information and recommendations.
