Abraham-Louis Breguet was a famous watchmaker in his day and was well-liked by the nobility and monarchy of France. In addition to contracts for gentlemen, Queen Marie-Antoinette, Empress Josephine, and Caroline Murat, the youngest sister of Napoleon Bonaparte and nicknamed the Queen of Naples, were among the famous clients he served.
Caroline Murat then placed two orders in 1810: one was for a large, complicated carriage timepiece, and the other was an oblong minute repeater that could be worn on the wrist and is regarded as one of the earliest timepieces that was made specifically for wrist use. That round form of the lost original served as the inspiration for Breguet’s popular Reine de Naples line, which debuted in 2002, and ahead of Valentine’s Day 2024, Breguet introduces a dainty Reine de Naples model that features passionate red rubies and white diamonds.

The egg-shaped 18k white gold case comes with 24.95mm in diameter, 33mm in length, and 8.5mm in slender height, perfect for feminine measurement. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Breguet watches is the delicate fluting on the caseband, which mimics the oval shape’s border bottom and smaller top features.
A vivid red cabochon-cut ruby is set in the crown, which is positioned at 4 o’clock to avoid obstructing the oval case form. Diamonds are put in the unique spherical attachment that covers the strap at 6 o’clock. Beautifully following the curves of the tapering egg-shaped case, the 45 hand-set diamonds in the bezel accentuate it.
The highly styled Breguet numerals on the glistening white mother-of-pearl dial are graded in size, with the number “12” taking up most of the upper half. The egg-shaped case’s decreasing size is highlighted by the slanted Breguet numerals that extend to the lower portion of the dial. The flange of the watch, which honours the most romantic day of the year, is set with 66 rubies, and the off-center subdial features twelve red heart-shaped hour markers. Lastly, there is a crimson polish on the traditional Breguet open-tipped hands.
This timepiece is powered by the automated in-house calibre 586/1, which includes a silicon balance spring and a 38-hour power reserve. The platinum rotor with its guilloché ornamentation and the Côtes de Genève and bevelling on the mechanism are visible via a sapphire crystal glass on the caseback.
You should know that the Reine de Naples 8925 comes on a brilliant, glossy red alligator leather strap with a clasp studded with 28 diamonds, joined by a bracelet formed of hair and entwined gold strands.
