4 Tips on Dive Watch Maintenance and Care

Dive watch with high quality can last up to decades if you treat it right. Unlike the other types of watches, a dive watch is designed to be used underwater. Therefore, dive watch requires special care which is slightly different from other watches.

We covered 4 basic tips that must be considered in caring for dive watch below.

Rinse after diving.

Don’t forget to rinse your dive watch after diving. Because seawater contains things that ruin the durability and function of your watch. Rinse immediately with clean water after you finished diving. This is an important thing that you must always remember so your dive watch can last a long time.

Clean your Dive Watch regularly. Because it is used under the water, there are many things that can be left inside or outside of your favourite dive watch. Therefore, clean your dive watch periodically.

For the outside, use a microfiber cloth to clean up the dirt and stains. As for rada dirt that difficult to disappear, use a soft bristle brush. Be careful when cleaning your watch, do it as gently as possible to not cause scratches.

For the inside, don’t do it by yourself. Entrust professionals at Time Care to do it.

Always check the crown before diving.

Crown is the most important part of a dive watch. Besides to set the time, the crown is the only space where water can enter a dive watch. Make sure your watch’s crown is closed before diving. If you dive in an open crown, seawater will enter and can damage the inner components.

Clean the bezel section.

Bezels are not only the decoration of a dive watch, but they are also useful for measuring your dive time.

When diving, there are things like sand, coral fibres, and other small particles that can enter and hamper your dive watch’s bezel rotation. So, to prevent it to happen, always rinse your dive watch after diving and make sure there is no dirt stuck on your bezel.

Do not exceed the water resistant limits of your watch.

The first thing to check when you want to buy a dive watch is the limit of water resistant feature. The water resistance shown on the back case or dial is a recommendation of how deep you can use the watch under the water. Therefore, do not let you exceed the depth limit that already listed so the water does not seep into your watch.

The Pure Symmetry and Accuracy of A. Lange Sohne Saxonia Moon Phase

There are just a few watch manufacturers being serious about their moon-phases precision. One of them is A. Lange & Sohne. The brand treats their lunar indication as to the same dedication to detail accuracy as they do to other complications like repeaters and chronograph. They even held an event at Scottsdale, Arizona for an astronomically themed experience with selected media guests.

The brand comes with the new A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moon Phase that follows the concept that was introduced by the first Saxonia model in 2015 and adds new features to the display, a large date, and moon ages display. The three main aspects of this watch are coming in the dial, the case, and the movement.

First of all, the dial. One word you could say when you see the dial must be “balance”. The perfect placement of complication, pure symmetry, and perfect alignment is what you get on this watch dial. You can trace a line in the middle of the dial from 12 to 6 and you can see how balanced the dial’s layout is.

The hands and indexes layout is a substantial design from the old Saxonia models that made a dream look. The iconic Lange double date aperture is located at 12 o’clock and the moon-phase located at 6 o’clock. This moon-phase aperture is accented by a running seconds hand, a really nicely done design on the dial.

Another part that plays a major role in this watch is the case. This watch comes with a 40mm white gold case that features traditional bombe bezel, polished, and polished case back. Really nice craftsmanship from A. Lange & Sohne. With its size, A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moon Phase make a perfect dress watch for a business suit or even a tuxedo.

This watch comes with a hand-stitched black alligator on the strap and a classical pin buckle that features the “Lange” engraved logo.

The new Saxonia Moon Phase powered by L086.5, the same movement as the L086.1 but with the addition of the moon-phase complication. This watch comes with a really nice decoration. Chamfered and polished edges, relief logo, frosted at the lower part and grained circular lines top surface. The movement is not only incredibly attractive to look at but also incredibly accurate. You won’t need to adjust this movement for 122.6 years and it is 99.99% accurate. This watch is for those of you who hate to set up your watch.

This new A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moon Phase exemplifies everything that Lange does well: clean, simple, restrained, and beautiful timepieces.

5 Fact about Super-LumiNova that you may never know before.

If you are a watch collector, you must be familiar with Super-LumiNova. It’s a fluorescent material without radioactive energy. This is something that makes your dial, index, and watch hands keep glowing brightly in the dark of the night.

Most of the popular Swiss watch brands use Super-LumiNova on their watch products. Besides having an important function, Super-LumiNova also becomes an artistic value on every watch.

Super-LumiNova is not a new thing.

Luminova has entered the Swiss watch industry market since 1998. This Super-LumiNova is an update from Luminova with a brighter glow. Because they are very effective, its effectiveness was readily embraced by the Swiss watchmaking industry and quickly replaced its predecessors and was applied to all luxury watches made in Switzerland.

Super-Luminova does not contain radioactive material.

If the previous luminescent uses radioactive material, Super-LumiNova does not contain radioactive at all. Although radium watches are not dangerous for everyday use, it seems to be more assured if we do not use radioactive particles on our wrist.

Super-LumiNova must be charged to emit light.

Radium and tritium have the ability to emit light for a long time without having to be charged with light because they contain radioactive material. Super-LumiNova does not contain radioactive material, so you need to refill light on your watch. After being filled with light, the part of your watch that is coated with Super-Luminova will glow in the dark in time.

Super-LumiNova can be charged multiple times without limit.

Unlike radium and tritium, Super-LumiNova can be charged multiple times without decreasing its strength. The bright and long-lasting light from Super-LumiNova depends on how much light fuel was obtained beforehand.

Super-LumiNova is available in various colours.

There are many colour choices on Super-LumiNova, ranging from white, yellow, green, and blue. The most popular these days are pale yellow to beige tones, which are reminiscent of the familiar glow of vintage watches and their fluorescent light generated by radium and tritium.

The main feature of this new Piaget Altiplano lies in its dial that is made of thin slices of meteorite. No two watches will have a similar dial, because the pattern of the meteorite is the result of the crystallization of the stone.

Given that the basic unit of these two time-division systems is not the same, this represents a real technical feat. This watch comes with a white Grand Feu enamel dial. The animal of the year, the Rat, appears in a window at 12 o’clock. Below is the double hour counter displayed in numbers and symbols. The ten celestial pillars and five elements are displayed at 3 o’clock, while two hands at 9 o’clock serve to read the month and date.

What’s the Difference between a Chronometer and a Chronograph?

Chronometer and chronograph are two things that quite often are discussed when you are discussing watches. For an avid watch collector, they may be very familiar with these various terms. However, some people may not know the differences between those two.

The two terms sound like they have similar names, but these two are really different things. Then what is the difference between those two? A chronometer is an instrument that used to make accurate time measurements for a watch. While the chronograph is an instrument for recording time.

Chronometer

A chronometer is neither a complication nor an additional feature on a watch. A chronometer is a term used for high-precision watches with a running seconds display whose accuracy of movement has been controlled for several days in different positions and at different temperatures by an official.

Named the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, or better known as the COSC, this is an Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. COSC tests the accuracy and consistency of a wristwatch movement for 15 days in 5 different positions and temperatures. The movement will pass and get COSC certification if for 15 days it has an accuracy of -4 or +6 seconds a day.

If you are looking for a Chronometer-certified timepiece, this Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Power Control is one of the legit picks. The movement is equipped with a stop-seconds function allowing precise adjustments. This stainless steel watch on a rubber strap housing the self-winding Chopard Calibre 01.08-C and beating at a frequency of 28,800 v.p.h. This racing car inspired watch comes with an emblematic black dial with a power-reserve indicator at 9 o’clock.

Chronograph

The chronograph is an additional feature on a watch that is known as a complication in the world of mechanical watches. Chronograph function is to measure time in several periods. Maybe you are more familiar with this function as a stopwatch. On a chronograph watch, one hand can start, stop, and return to the number 0 to measure the duration of time up to 15, 10, or even 100 seconds in duration.

Although the chronograph watch dial layout has many variations, there are usually two sub-counters for minutes and hours (generally 30 minutes and 12 hours) which make up the total of the central chronograph hand that measures in seconds.  Breguet La Tradition Chronograph is one of our Chronograph watch collections. This watch feature Hand-wound chronograph movement numbered and signed Breguet. There is also a power reserve indicator, 20-minute counter engraved on the back of the movement, and chronograph running indicator at 6 o’clock.
